Back to blogging: a bit about the style.

It's been a while since my last blog post. God, it sure feels awkward to start over again.
First was the grieving, later I was jusy simply busy with school and... other stuff I do.  But here I am.

Lately, I've had a lot of different thoughts about style, subculture etc.
As some of you know, I took part in this... thing on a website for women, where people can look at your pictures and tell what they think about your style. The outcome was rather interesting.
First of all - and it's a good thing!- I found out that I've learned to take criticism quite well (from random people. Close ones may be a bit different). It probably just comes with age and years and years of walking around dressed "different". I'm not really proud or the kind that would say: "They're just jealous!" etc. It's just... I'm not really bothered. Everyone has a right to have their own opinion and it's really not my business. Ha.
Anyway, about the comments. Beside the ones that discussed how old I look or how much weight should I lose (Really?! Does it have anything -at all- to do with what I wear?), there were some I'd like to comment myself. Seems that people jump to conclusions before they get their facts right. Most just know what's appropriate and what's not for someone of my style (or similar) to wear.

Who? Me? Old?!? :D

But let me tell you something:
Rockabilly (as in style of clothing etc) does not equal vintage
vintage does not equal 50's (hey, there are vintage gals wearing 30's clothing exclusively and there are vintage gals wearing a different decade's outfit every day, right?)

(modern) rockabilly does not equal the 50's either
rockabilly also doesn't equal pin-up and pin-up is not the same as 50's clothing.

Those things can overlap at times and there are rockabilly girls wearing mostly vintage/50's stuff (for example). But it's not the way it works, not really.
For example, someone gave me a link of The Freelancer's Fashion Blog  to find some tips on how to dress. I consider it a nice comment, probably wishing their best :). (Also, knew that blog. Love the blog. Beautiful!) But it's just not my thing, I guess. I love vintage, I get inspired by and occasionally wear vintage clothing, but it's not something I (would) wear on a daily basis. (PLUS vintage stuff is hard to find and awfully overpriced around here anyway, so even if I really wanted to.....)

And most of all  50's inspired/rockabilly-inspired etc does what it says. It's inspired by something and it doesn't necssarily reflect the exact fashion.

That'show I described my style you see. Inspired by rockabilly, the 50's and pin-up girls. It doesn't mean that I'm dead serious about or that I look always 100% authentic.  (I don't. It's also not always all 3 of them. )

Back to the comments. It was interesting to see people commenting about me not wearing high heels :) Which kinda is connected to comments about pictures with jeans+flats/converse+bandana not fitting the style at all. (or flats with dress. That's right. )
So... jeans.
Actually jeans are a normal piece of clothing in rockabilly subculture/style AND amongst pin up girls/pictures.  As I already said, rockabilly  isn't exactly the same as vintage/etc and most of the girls in the scene don't really dress like an authentic 50's lady (who mostly wore dresses and skirts).  So yeah jeans are not out of place at all.
Heels.
Sorry to disappoint you, but no-one (except maybe for Carrie Bradshaw, but she is a fictional character :D ) wears high heels 24/7.
Of course if you look at pin-up styled photos 99% of the models would wear heels. Models. get it? :) Most of the rockabilly (not pin up, teehee) girls I know/have met wear flats  (too).  Have you tried dancing [rock'n'roll]all night  in  high heels? sure, some do it easily, but it's def. much more comfortable to manage while wearing flat shoes. (Not that I myself am much of a dancer. I have the dancing skills of a drunk hippo. But none the less :D )
I myself just ain't always comfortable with heels, I'm tall and I really like to be comfortable. Also it's not so easy to find nice high heeled shoes (at a reasonable price) when you have quite big feet like I do.

Ok those were just some details. But mostly - yeah  I think people just mix everything up :)  It's normal though, I just feel like I owe an explanation to ... the world :D


Also.... rockabilly/pin up/vintage etc etc etc girls/women are just like every girl you see. They (we) may have lazy hair days or aching feet or [insert whatever bothers you from time to time]. Non-subcultural women aren't all dolled up with high heels and hair extensions - or whatever's in- 24/7 right? :) So is no one. (Probably even not Carrie Bradshaw. Who still is a fictional character.)

So... enough of ranting, that's it for today! Hope everyone's alright :)

P.S. What's with the C. Bradshaw references all the time? :D
